IGENOUS ROCK

Thousands of years later Joe found himself being heated to the point of melting.  He couldn't believe it.  He actually became a liquid and flowed in convection currents in the earth's upper mantle.  He actually helped move the earth's plates!   He knew that his time as a metamorphic rock was over and he was going to become yet another.  But first he had to cool off and harden.  "How do I cool off and harden?" asked Joe. The reply came from all around him.  "You must decide if you want to cool fast or slowly. Either way you will become an Igneous rock. Igneous rock is  formed when molten rock cools into solid rock. You can cool slowly within the earth and you will have large crystals.  This is called intrusive rock.  If you want to cool quickly you must exit the crust and then you will become an Extrusive Igneous rock."  Puzzled Joe asked, "will I have crystals?"  "yes, but they will be very small, sometimes they are so small you can be smooth like glass, other times you will find that the gas inside of you will come out and it will create tiny bubbles which will make you very light.  So light you could even float!" "WOW" Joe replied. "I want to float".  So Joe found a volcano that was about to erupt.  This would take him to the surface and cool him quickly.  He had a lot of dissolved gasses in him so he knew that the bubbles would form when the pressure was released from around him.  After waiting for many years the explosion he was waiting for occurred.  Joe found himself flying through the air and the gasses coming out of solution forming bubbles.  "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" Splunk.  Joe was now on the surface with tons of little air pockets inside of him. "Wow! I did it" Joe replied.  I am a Extrusive Igneous rock!"
